Forget how this scene went |
After Versa finds her way to sleep, she awakens outdoors, on warm rocky ground, devoid of vegetation, and engulfed in flame. Before her, sitting upon a large rock outcrop, is the Ancient Phoenix she saved from beneath Mynior, the Summer Citadel[1].
He asks her, "why do you, a mortal, seek your end with such ferocity, knowing not what lingers beyond?"

Versa feels empowered, somehow, in ways she is unaware will reveal themselves in time.
Preparing for Adventure
Versa laments the bruises all over her body and dons her anti-scrying necklace; she doesn't want Magpie to see her like this. She then talks to The Lark, asking him whether or not she's still under Kallas's influence. He is curious she places such value and faith in his abilities despite vocally asking people to distrust him. She says he isn't giving her any reason to trust him, and that she just wants to know. His eyes flash and he declares that she is free of Kallas's grasp.
Versa then goes to see Morris, noting that she's sleeping soundly in her bed. She takes the opportunity to bring her breakfast on her nightstand, but finds her hand grabbed as she turns away. Morris thanks her for the food, and asks some questions about where they are and where they're going. Versa explains, making a point to say that The Lark cannot be trusted. Morris points out that there's a lot of things that don't seem to add up, and he seems hospitable enough.
Pine asks the Lark about any books he might have, but the Lark laments that he once had a massive library, but that was in a previous life. Most literature, now, he has stored internally. However, he does have a few books lying around, and directs him to Gael to find them.
Gael wants the cookie tin from Versa, but she doesn't let him at it; Versa wants to protect Gael from bad decisions. Instead she gives her some of the basic, non-magical cookies and stows the tin away.
Morris asks the group to call her Cynthia from now on, as she has lost her captain role. Versa objects, saying that once someone is a captain, they always are; this should not be read into as an insight into Versa's struggles of self-worth and identity. Versa asks if she had any ideas for a pirate name, but Cynthia says she hasn't had enough time to think about it, yet.
